What is distributed fiber optic sensing?

Distributed fiber optic sensing uses optical fiber as a continuous sensing medium. Instead of placing sensors only at fixed points, the fiber itself becomes a long sensing line for temperature, vibration or acoustic events.

What is the difference between DTS and DAS?

DTS measures temperature changes along the fiber route, while DAS detects vibration and acoustic events. DTS is typically used for cable temperature, hotspots and fire risk. DAS is typically used for intrusion, digging, leak noise and route disturbance.

When should I choose DTS?

Choose DTS when the monitoring target creates temperature change, such as power cable overheating, tunnel fire risk, pipeline thermal leakage, tank temperature change or data center cable temperature rise.

When should I choose DAS?

Choose DAS when the monitoring target creates vibration or acoustic energy, such as digging, vehicle movement, footsteps, pipeline interference, leak noise or perimeter intrusion.

Can DTS and DAS be used together?

Yes. Many long-distance assets benefit from both systems. DTS provides temperature visibility, while DAS provides vibration and disturbance awareness. Together they support more complete route-level monitoring.
